The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate that is voluntarily paid by nearly 6,000 UK businesses who believe their staff deserve a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work. Employers pay the real Living Wage which is higher than the government minimum – they also make sure all their employees in London receive the London Living Wage.

The Living Wage is calculated annually by the Centre for Research in Social Policy at Loughborough University for the Living Wage Foundation. In the Lewes area over 30 employers are already signed up to pay this rate, ranging from from solicitors to jewellers to charities.

We are in Living Wage Week, and on Saturday 16th, screenings of Sorry We Missed You, Ken Loach’s new film about the gig economy will start at Depot and members of Lewes Living Wage will be there to provide information. Employers who pay the real Living Wage are helping to counter low paid and insecure work, which leaves many families below the poverty line in Lewes as elsewhere.

As an employer do you already pay the “Real Living Wage”?  Why not be sign up for accreditation.  The Living Wage Foundation works with and accredits employers who are awarded the badge to display in store or on-line. Accreditation means that all their in-house and contract staff are paid the real Living Wage. The Foundation has a sliding fee scale depending on the size of the business.
